Tibetan Books and Manuscript Library

The Tibetan books and manuscript collection holds more than 122,000 titles in the form of manuscripts, books, xylographs, documents and illuminated scriptures. The collections include centuries-old manuscripts, documents and contemporary publications. Parts of the collection are open to the public, while access to others is restricted to accredited scholars and researchers. Study areas are provided in the respective wings housing each collection. Research guidance is available from resident scholars. General information about the libraries is available at the reception desk.

New titles are added each year ranging from rare and original manuscripts to contemporary reprints in book form including those donated by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The entire collection is also being catalogued in a computer database in the Tibetan language, which will be available to the public. This makes it the only collection of its kind catalogued by the computer in Tibetan. Library users can gain access to any part of the collections through the online cataloguing system.
